Join some of\nHighlands County’s talented artists in this rare juried MoTA show where those connections are\nrevealed\, one painting\, one sketch\, one photograph and sculpture at a time. The Highlands Art League\nartist member exhibit brings to one gallery the talents of current local year’ round artists and\nphotographers Kayla Chaput\, Kevin Collier\, Jean Cormier\, Ellen Dixon\, Norma Evans\, Alice Hansen\,\nMary Lou Herald\, Pam Jessiman\, Marty Layne\, Donald Lipps\, Jr.\, Cindy Rose\, Ingrid Strope\, and\nMichelle Weidner. They join a friend and fellow artist Selene Spence who is featured posthumously. A\nlife-long supporter and artist with the Highlands Art League\, Spence is well-known for her watercolors\nand graphite drawings\, just as she is for the kindness shown to others in and outside of the art\ncommunity in Highlands County. \nJoin us for the exhibit opening on Friday\, August 2\, 4:30—6:30 p.m. in the lower level of MoTA as we\ncelebrate the work of these talented Central Florida artists. Participants will learn have fun learning about agriculture\, food\, and nutrition. \nAges 8-18 \nInternational Food\, Fun\, and Fitness 4-H Day Camp will dive into a different subject and complete activities and experiments focusing on topics such as: food production\, health and nutrition\, food preparation\, agricultural technology\, biotechnology\, and careers in agriculture. Participants will have the opportunity to take field trips during the week to learn more about agriculture in Highlands County. This camp will explore Florida agriculture\, compare it to agricultural practices in other countries\, and learn how international agriculture is shaping the future of agriculture in our state. \nPlease Note:\n• Camp t-shirt\, snacks\, and field trips are included in the price of camp registration.\n• All campers must be enrolled in 4-H Online.\n• Exact cash and checks may be turned in to the 4-H Office.\n• Checks are to be made payable to Highlands County 4-H Foundation.\n• All credit card payments must be made through Eventbrite on a personal device.\n• You may write one check for several camps\, but please write on the memo line pertaining to how your money should be allocated.\n• All day camps will be held at the UF/IFAS Extension\, Highlands County Office with field trips being held offsite at multiple locations.\n• Lunch is not provided for Day Camps and you must pack a lunch that does not require refrigeration.\n• Please be sure to send youth in 4-H appropriate clothing to all events. For camp\, please wear closed toe shoes\, pack a towel\, sunscreen\, and appropriate bathing suit for water activities. Girls are permitted to wear a one piece bathing suit\, or a two piece with a dark colored shirt over top. Boys may wear board shorts/ swim trucks\, but no speedos. State events have a separate dress code that is strictly adhered to.\n• An additional form will be required for youth that need to take medication during 4-H events.\n• Campers must be picked up within 30 minutes of the designated pickup time. SUMMARY:Highlands Quarters for Cause benefitting NU-HOPE
DESCRIPTION:Highlands Quarters for a Cause- an exciting blend of auction/raffles- is benefiting NU-HOPE Elder Care Services on Tuesday\, May 14th. The event is held at the at the Sebring Woman’s Club (across from Veterans Beach on Lake Jackson). Doors open at 6pm for refreshments and to view the vendor tables and raffle items\, with the full event starting at 7. \nAt Quarters for a Cause\, dozens of items are raffled off in a fun and unique method. When the evening ends\, a local cause is provided a generous donation. \nHow does this work? When participants first come into the event\, they purchase an auction-type\, numbered paddle. When an item is being raffled\, participants place their non-refundable ‘bid’ (usually 2 quarters) into bowls at each table then hold their paddle high up in the air\, indicating they had entered a ‘bid’. A number is drawn. The lucky person who has the matching number on their paddle wins… as long as they ‘bid’ on the item! If that person did not bid\, they keep drawing numbers until someone wins the prize. \nIt may sound complicated\, but it is actually very easy\, and the room is filled with experienced people who are willing to show how to play. Just bring plenty of quarters and friends for a night of fun and excitement\, all benefiting a worthy cause! \nIn addition to the raffle/auction\, vendors offer a variety of items for sale.
